I couldn't have been happier with the effort I saw in our first game. We kept the ball in the other team's half for a solid four minutes at the beginning of the game and just needed a bit of luck on our shots. We had great passing, with Luis, Bryce and Keegan working very well together in the first half. Helen and Erin were very strong in midfield in that first half too, doing a great job of keeping the ball contained in the other team's side of the field. Our defense was pretty strong too, thanks to Samantha, Jordan, Chase and Gabriel.
In the second half we were finally able to get a goal off a great shot by Luis. He and Bryce were weaving and passing all day and it finally paid off. Helen had a nice shot on goal too in traffic but the keeper made a fine stop. Sam was also doing some good work in offense in the second half, making some very smart passes. Easten was looking good in midfield too. Samantha made a good debut in as keeper and I'll make a point of working at every practice with her and anyone else who wants to take a turn in goal.
Really great game everyone.
Oh, and thanks to referee Alex for doing such a professional job on that one penalty kick. I was really impressed with how she took the time to explain to all the kids what was happening and where they needed to be. She even offered a few tips to Blayr as to how to play keeper in that situation. That is NKYA at its best.
